Gold Layered Jewellery FAQ

What is Gold Layered Jewellery?
Gold layered jewellery is simply a base metal of Jewellers Brass, layered with Gold. Our 18 Carat Gold is layers of Gold created on the base metal electronically from a dissolved gold in a chemical solution. Multiple layers of gold are applied on each piece to ensure an even and substantial coverage. Depending on the particular item, depends how many layers the piece gets.
What is Rhodium Layered Jewellery?
Rhodium layered jewellery is similar to Gold layered jewellery, the only difference is that we substitute the dissolved Gold with Rhodium. The other difference is that Rhodium being such as hard metal, the layer thickness is reduced as it can become brittle if exceeding this thickness.
What's the difference between 9 carat and 18 carat gold?
The purity of Gold is measured in terms of Carats, pure Gold is 24 Carat. The more this figure is to 24, the less parts of other metal included in the Goldalloy. Therefore, 18 carat Gold means there are 18 parts gold and 6 parts other metal (or 75% Gold).
What is Rhodium?
Rhodium is a member of the platinum group of metals. It is chemical element that is a rare, silvery-white and hard metal that can be much more expensive than the price of Gold. Rhodium is an extremely durable metal, therefore less likely to tarnish or suffer from every day wear.
How long will Layered Jewellery last?
The point to remember is that Gold and Rhodium, along with their other unique qualities, is virtually indestructible. With reasonable care the jewellery will last quite some time.We have our 3 Year Replacement Guarantee* but that is not to say it will not last any longer.
*Subject to terms and conditions - see the 3 Year Replacement Guarantee card.
Is Gold Layered the same as Gold Plated Jewellery?
18 Carat and Rhodium Layered jewellery is similar only in the fact that they have a base on the jewellery, and a layer of Gold or Rhodium over this base. Allure Gold 18 Carat Gold Layered Jewellery differs in the fact that we layer our item multiple times to get an even and consistent layer of Gold over the base. Keep in mind that some plated jewellery is only very finely plated which is what gives plated jewellery a bad name.
Does Allure Gold Jewellery contain Nickel?
Yes there is a small amount of nickel used to bond the Gold Layering to the Jewellers Brass. Most people allergic to nickel will not react to Allure Gold Jewellery.
How do I care for my Gold Layered jewellery?
Just like any piece of fine jewellery, frequent cleaning is recommended to maintain its true beauty. For more detailed care instructions, please see the 3 Year Replacement Guarantee card.

How often do you release new items?
We try to release a new range or item every month. Some months we may release 3-4 items, and others we may only release 1 item. It depends on several factors which includes testing and complexity of the item.
What is a Cubic Zirconia?
To the untrained and naked eye, a Cubic Zirconia (CZ) looks identical to a good quality diamond. The synthesized material is hard, optically flawless and usually colorless, but may be made in a variety of different colours.
What is a Swarovski Crystal?
Swarovski Crystal is manufactured from a manmade raw material and does not occur naturally. The formula for these man made crystals was perfected by Daniel Swarovski and his three sons. The crystals contain 32% lead to maximize refraction, which categorized Swarovski crystals as a "fully leaded crystal."
What is the difference between Cubic Zirconia's & Swarovski Crystals?
Basically to the untrained eye nothing. A Cubic Zirconia is the number one synthetic version of a Diamond used as its substitute, looking as close to diamond as you can get.Whereas, the Swarovski Crystal is cut from lead glass. The luster to this crystal is very colorful in clear, so it may not appear to be as real looking as diamond.
What stones do you use in your items?
We use 2 different stones in our items, Cubic Zirconia's and Swarovski Crystals
  • Rings: Cubic Zirconia's
  • Tennis Bracelets: Swarovski Crystals
  • Filigree Hearts with Stones: Cubic Zirconia's
  • Bangle (C154): Swarovski Crystals
